Greenspace

For several years, Sun Prairie United Methodist Church has had a committee of people who have been working to envision how the space between the church and the Wesley House could be developed into a more purposeful space. A beautiful Memories Garden space has taken shape with a walking path that includes engraved pavers, an arbor at the entrance, benches, flower gardens, trees and a lawn space for kids to play. A future phase will include a covered pergola or gazebo.
Committee Members:
David Lyon, chair, Jenny Arneson, Terry Twedell, Jim Grenzow, Judy Krebs, Gene & Karen Bass, Kathy Lyon, Paul Hale
Purpose Statement
The Greenspace Committee has developed and will execute a landscaping plan for the existing open space next to the SPUMC. It will be designed to be a meditative and calming retreat. The plan will include commemorative markers for those who want to remember and give thanks for loved ones and have open spaces for enjoying outdoor activities.
Funding
This project has been completely funded through gifts and donations. Money has not been used from the church operating budget or by having a capital campaign.
We reached our fundraising goals and have completed Phases 1 & 2! Thank you to all of the very generous donors!
We are continuing to raise money for both maintenance of this beautiful space and to be able to put in either a pergola or gazebo. This will be the committee’s next project to research.
If you would like to donate to the Greenspace in honor or memory of someone or a special event, you can mail a check to the church or put your gift in an envelope marked “Greenspace donation” and put it in the offering plate. All donations receive church giving credit.
Thank you again for your generous support of this project! It is exciting to see this become a reality! We hope you enjoy the beauty of this special space.
