Children & Family Ministries

Sun Prairie UMC has a vibrant and lively community for kids of all ages!12654526_10153389919400665_4461057745366771322_n

  • Children’s Ministry encompasses ages birth to 5th grade.

  • Family Ministry focuses on those events and activities that are great for the whole family together.

Children’s ministry is diverse and active – listed below are the many ways your child can be involved in the life of the SPUMC community.

Church School

Church School runs Sept. through May on both Saturday and Sunday. Saturday church school starts at 5:15 pm following the children’s time in worship. Sunday church school starts at 9:45 am. Children must register for church school so that teachers can be prepared for the right amount of students and to follow Safe Sanctuary guidelines

5th Grade Mission Experience

Each Summer we will offer a day long mission experience for current 5th Grade students. This mission opportunity is designed to serve as a first step into mission work. The day long experience includes some faith exploration along with a service component. It generally takes place in the Sun Prairie area.

This summer since we have a smaller group of 5th grade students they will be invited to join our other middle school students for middle school mission weekend. Please watch for more information this spring from our Director of Youth and Young Adult Ministries Patrick Tenny.

Children's Church

Children’s Church is held on Sunday mornings during both worship services Sept. through May.  In Children’s Church, kids aged 3 years – 1st grade meet in our new classroom addition following the children’s sermon. We read a story, do a craft, play games, and learn about God’s love. Parents can sign up to help with children’s church outside the new classroom addition.

During the season of Advent students who participate in our children’s church ministry will be taking part in a children’s version of our church wide Advent study.

Please note: We do not offer children’s church the first Sunday of the month. This weekend is set aside for families to worship together and to participate in the sacrament of Holy Communion as a family.

Summer Children’s Church

Summer Children’s Church will begin the weekend of May 26th and 27th. We will continue to have family worship the first weekend of the month when there is communion. Therefore, only our church nursery will be open those weekends. Summer children’s church is offered at all three of our worship services for children who are age 3 through just finishing 1st grade.

Acolyte Ministry

Youth in 3rd-7th grade are invited to be part of our Acolyte Ministry at Sun Prairie United Methodist Church. Youth are responsible for carrying the light of Christ into and out of our worship space. If you have questions please contact our Acolyte Coordinator Jenny Elske at jenny.elske@gmail.com

Vacation Bible School

Kids entering 4K through 5th Grade next fall join us for VBS  in August from 9-11:30am each morning.

Scholarships are available for VBS.

Summer Programming

Summer Children’s Church

Summer Children’s Church is offered during both summer weekend worship services for children age 3-1st grade.  We DO NOT have children’s church the first weekend of the month so that families can worship together and have communion.

5th Grade Summer Mission Experience

Students who are completing 5th grade will be invited to participate in a day long mission experience each summer. The experience is designed to lay a basic foundation for mission including; theology, faith formation, service, and fundraising.

Children's Christmas Program

Every year our preschool through 5th grades have the opportunity to participate in our Children’s Christmas Program. Much like a play, students learn the story of Jesus’ birth through storytelling, drama, set building, and music.

This year our Children’s Christmas Program will be presented during 10:45am worship on Sunday, December 9th, 2018. Children will be learning the music during church school and Wednesday night LOGOS.

Sometimes adults need to worship without their littlest ones.  We understand.

Our nursery is open 10 minutes before each of our three worship services, with care offered for children from birth to age 2. Families sign children in and receive a pager to take back to worship with them. We contact parents and family members if we need them to return. Our nursery staff is CPR, First Aid, and Safe Sanctuaries trained. If you will be leaving your child(ren) in the nursery during worship we ask that you complete the Worship Nursery Registration. These are kept on file in our nursery area..

Littles and Grands Playgroup: Is there a grandma or grandpa helping to care for your little ones while you work? If so, would you ask if they would be interested in joining others for playtime and conversation? Sarah Johnsen is a retired United Methodist pastor who is caring for her two year old twin granddaughters three days a week. She would love to connect with others who are experiencing the joy of helping to raise their grandchildren. The group would meet at the church in the Nursery the first and third Monday of the month at 9:30 starting in December 2018.

United Methodist Summer Camp 2019: The 2019 Summer Camp guide is available online for families as they plan out their summers. Please visit the link below. If you have questions please contact church staff.  http://www.wiumcamps.org/

Park Days 2019: Families and children of all ages are invited to join us for Park Days. We will have crafts and games at the following locations during the listed times. We do encourage parents or caregivers to stay. However, this is a great event for kids to bring their summer sitters too.
