“O give thanks to the Lord, for God is good; God’s steadfast love endures forever!”
Thankfulness is not some sort of magic formula; rather it is the language of love and hope, which keeps us in communication and connection with God. A spirit of thankfulness can open us to an attitude of hope and hope keeps us mindful of God’s steadfast presence.
Our lives are so often a mingling of blessing and sorrow. Thankfulness may not change our circumstances, but it can shift our mindset toward hope and hope keeps us in touch with God as our refuge and strength.
We certainly are not thankful for all things that happen in life, but when we can give God thanks in the midst of all things, we will better sense God’s steadfast, enduring love and hope.
We have a choice each day to be thankful and hopeful. As we prepare our hearts, minds and souls this week for a day we call Thanksgiving, I invite you to continue to nurture a thankful attitude and as that thankfulness turns to hopefulness, find ways to be an instrument of hope to others.
