“Therefore encourage one another and build up each other,
as indeed you are doing.”
–1 Thessalonians 5:11
“I give you a new commandment, that you love one another.
Just as I have loved you, you also should love one another.”
I had the blessing of attending the opening night performance of The Wizard of Oz theater production Friday night, staring young performers with special needs. These young artists and their mentors are part of the Penguin Project. This theater group meets in our church several times a week for their five months of rehearsals and it has been a blessing to extend our wide welcome through the sharing of our building space.
In Penguin productions, performers of all abilities are paired with mentors who go on stage with them to help if needed with their lines and songs or motions and movements. It is heartwarming to see the mentors encouraging and building up the artists on stage and see the love and encouragement being shared from the entire cast, crew and audience. It was also an encouragement to see dozens of our Sun Prairie United Methodist Church folks involved in all levels of the production and cheering in the audience.
With all that goes on in our world and our lives each day, if there were ever a day when we need to encourage one another; if there were ever a day when we need to build up each other; if there were ever a day when we need to show love to one another as God loves us…This certainly is that day and time.
If you need to have a living, breathing reason to believe in the goodness of people and evidence to know that all is not lost in the challenging, difficult world in which we live, the power of the Penguin Project can be that encouragement that builds us up by putting love on display.
