“Bring the best of the first fruits of your soil to the house of the Lord your God.”
This past weekend was the 33rd Annual Garage Sale at Sun Prairie United Methodist Church. It truly was a week of inspired H.O.P.E.!
H.O.P.E. is our Four-year Ministry Plan and it was on full display during the entire week of preparation and throughout the garage sale weekend. We have named H.O.P.E. as Hospitality, Offering Christ, Purposeful living and Engaging the community.
Hospitality could be seen in the way people were welcomed and thanked as they brought items for the garage sale during the week. Hospitality continued in the many ways people coming to the garage sale from opening day through the closing hour were warmly greeted and thanked. Offering Christ happened in all the ways hospitality was shown and the fellowship and connections happened among and through our many volunteers. Purposeful living happened as our volunteers and staff did the needed tasks to make the garage sale happen with intentionality and special care. And engaging the community happened as the garage sale was shared with the hundreds of community people who came to the sale and all those who will benefit in our community from the proceeds of the sale.
These are just a few examples of how H.O.P.E. was inspired through our faith community during the last week because of the garage sale. Many other wonderful situations and individual people inspired H.O.P.E. during the week…from the fellowship with one another; to seeing people find a way to connect with the life of the church; to volunteers taking vacation in order to help during the week; to volunteers making sure that the items for sale were offered in good working order and in ways that were neat, organized and attractive.
While the garage sale is one full week of long hours and hard work, the love and care and grace that was shared through this ministry inspires H.O.P.E. to continue inside and outside the walls of our faith community! May H.O.P.E. continue to inspire each of us to bring the best and share the best of who we are and who God has call us to be .
