“…the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, generosity, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control.”
For the third year, I was part of a Girls on the Run race Saturday. It is wonderful to see a couple of thousand young girls, their ‘running buddies’ and coaches running the 5k race with parents, families and friends cheering them on along the entire course.
The girls also do other fun things to show their team spirit and unity such as face painting, color in their hair, sharing encouraging statements and cheers, and wearing team socks. This year, our team socks said, “I’m a girl, What’s your Super Power?”
While we often think of ‘super powers’ only being part of our fictional superheroes, like Superman, the man of steel; Spider-Man, who can do whatever a spider can do; Batman, who keeps Gotham City safe; The Hulk, with his incredible strength; and Wonder Woman, with her powerful lasso.
What’s your super power? As people of faith, our ‘super powers’ come in the form of the Fruit of the Spirit, which scripture tells us is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, generosity, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control.
What if we worked at perfecting these super powers that are already within us and make them visible to others? Perhaps, we could pick one super power each week to focus on and perfect.
I invite us to enjoy working on perfecting the super powers that have been planted within us through the power of the Holy Spirit.
