“Praise the Lord! Praise, O servants of the Lord; praise the name of the Lord.”
Above is the first verse of Psalm 113. The Psalm continues with the words, “Blessed be the name of the Lord from this time on and forevermore. From the rising of the sun to its setting, the name of the Lord is to be praised. The Lord is high above all nations, and God’s glory above the heavens. Who is like the Lord our God, who is seated on high, who looks far down on the heavens and the earth? God raises the poor from the dust, and lifts the needy from the ash heap, to make them sit with princes, with the princes of his people.” (113:2-8).
I have a beautifully illustrated children’s book that is simply titled “Psalms for Young Children.” The book takes each of the Psalms and paraphrases them into words that are understandable for young children and then has an illustrated picture to go with each Psalm.
Psalm 113 is paraphrased to simply say, “All people everywhere, all who love God, let’s sing for God today, tomorrow, and every day! First thing in the morning and just before bed, praise God!”
In the midst of all that we face and deal with each day, what a wonderful reminder to keep us focused and centered on what we are called to do as we awaken each morning and before we sleep each night. We might also think of praising God as simply saying ‘Thank You’ to God for each day of life, which is an unrepeatable gift. May we have a week in which we do just that…Praise God by thanking God first thing in the morning and just before bed!
