A New Fall
Many people look at January as the time to start new traditions, resolutions, or projects. Fall is that time for me. The kids are getting ready to go back to school which means a time to buy new school supplies, new school clothes, a new school schedule and meeting new teachers. This also means a time to purge the old stuff. The old school supplies that aren’t reusable, the clothes that don’t fit any longer and the torn and ripped binders that barely made it through last year.
It’s also a time in the church life where we begin new small groups, new LOGOS classes, new confirmation students and the transition for all the kids to move up a grade in Church School classes. It’s a time to reconnect with God and with our spiritual life that maybe took a break during the summer. This can also be a time to try new things. Maybe you’ve always wanted to try a small group. We have several small groups that are ongoing but we have some that will begin this fall.
We have groups that meet short term for studies and we have groups that meet on an ongoing basis that connect people of similar interests. Our Knit, Crochet, Pray group meets twice a month working on prayer shawls and caps to give away. Our Books Between Bites group meets monthly for lunch and a book review. Our XYZ, eXtra Years of Zest group for our retired friends meets monthly to listen to a presenter and enjoy lunch. Grace Café and M & M’s are women’s study groups that meet weekly. There is a Men’s Group that meets every Saturday morning. We also have a parenting group for parents with Tweens and Teens. There is something for everyone!
We also have a Women’s Retreat planned for October 20-22. This is an excellent time for women to find rest, connect with other women and grow in their faith. We are hoping to put together a Men’s Retreat to Pine Lake to help with projects at the camp as well.
You can see why I look to fall as my time to recharge, restart and begin anew. In more ways than one it’s the perfect time to take a step out in faith and join a small group or attend a retreat.
